First, a word of thanks. We are grateful to Bishop Penman, the synod staff, and donors to the Hunger Fund—for the grants of $1000 that were sent out in early November to 26 congregations to support feeding ministries. The grants were both generous and timely, and we are grateful. SEPA rocks!
Second, remembering Jesus’ call to feed the hungry, we still have a lot of work to do. Although the federal shutdown has ended and SNAP benefits have been delivered, the steady erosion of a safety net to ensure that all are fed continues.
We invite lay people and rostered leaders who are concerned about this issue to participate in a Zoom call on Thursday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. We’ll be imagining together how a renewed Synod Hunger Team might address systemic food insecurity together.
